Fat stimulates the emergence of deadly cancers

Scientists from the Institute of Biotechnology in Belgium Flanders discovered the mechanism of metastasis of cancer. The key role played by fat in it, involved in the formation of new lymphatic vessels, invade other tissues and organs in which the malignant cells. Their findings, researchers reported in an article published in the journal Nature.

Metastases are the major cause of death in cancer patients. To the cancer cells have spread to the healthy tissues, they need pre-existing or formed channels. For this purpose, they use the lymphatic vessels, which are converted from the blood vessels. For this transformation, as shown by scientists need to use fat cells. Of these molecules are formed, which, in turn, affect the factors regulating the activity of certain genes.
According to scientists, the new drugs can prevent fat utilization and growth of new lymphatic vessels, which is an important step in the development of methods of suppression of metastasis.

The researchers are going to test the use of different inhibitors of fat on their ability to inhibit metastasis in various types of cancer. They also experience food supplements containing fats, to check whether they help restore damaged lymphatics.
