Experts explain why in old age is more difficult to lose weight

According to Dr. Michael Boschman of the Center for Clinical Research Charite University Hospital in Berlin, in order to reduce the weight of older people need much more to reduce food intake, than at a young age.

Consumption of excessive amounts of food at once in his youth does not lead to excess weight. The body simply rearranges its energy exchange and begins to consume more energy to heat. This is achieved to a large extent due to muscle mass, which in his youth still constitutes a significant share in the body.

People for 40 years, however, the ratio of muscle and body fat changes and there is a tendency to accumulation of excess kilos. By the age of 60 muscle mass begins to decline rapidly, so that radically reduces energy consumption at the main exchange. When you need to consume far fewer calories than at a young age, and habitual diet restriction measures do not help to lose weight anymore.
